In a traditional Tokyo dojo, you learn the etiquette, stances, and draws of iaido and battodo — then, under a master’s close guidance, cut a real target with a real blade. Discipline first, then the cut.

A licensed swordsmanship instructor
Years of training in iaido and battodo, and the discipline of drawing, cutting, and returning the blade.
You learn beside an instructor for whom the sword is a lifetime’s practice — the etiquette, the stillness, and finally the cut itself.
For over a decade, she has folded squares of silk into petals a few millimetres wide, a craft called tsumami zaiku that once adorned the hair of Edo-period women.What began as a fascination with a dying technique became a workshop, then a school, then a life. Today her pieces travel abroad with visitors who met her at her bench.
